Walking Trail Grand Opening and Work for Better Health Kickoff
About 50 community members came out to celebrate the Grand Opening of the Madison County Walking Trail, located behind the Senior Center in Huntsville. The walking trail was funded in part by a Trails for Life grant. However, local businesses and organizations have also donated to the project. The Huntsville Lions Club donated a bench and a picnic table for the trail. Madison County Community Coalition, Madison County Health Coalition and The Madison County Record all donated a bench. RCW Welding and Fabrication in Huntsville constructed the tables and benches and donated a trash can. Future plans for the walking trail include a pavilion. The Friendship Club has already donated $3,500 toward the project.
After the ribbon cutting ceremony, the residents and employees of Madison County businesses put the walking trail to good use with a group walk to kickoff the Work for Better Health program in the county. Work for Better Health is a worksite wellness program sponsored by the Madison County Health Coalition and funded by the Blue & You Foundation for a Healthier Arkansas. The program encourages everyone to get at least 30 minutes of moderate activity a day, and walking is a great option. |
